Day 4: Cleanin' Out My Closet

It's mid July which means I get to start thinking seriously about this up-coming school year. So the to-do lists and shopping lists have been accumulating. I have been surfing the web for efficient, yet eclectic furnishings to add to my apartment and scanning the sale selections in my favorite places to shop for clothes. But before I add any new additions to my closet... it DESPERATELY needed some TLC.

I am very fortunate to have such nice closet space at home but as you can see I don't use it to its full potential. I have waited almost all summer until it literally was impossible to climb over the mounds of clothes. I went through all my clothes, put aside pieces that I either haven't touched in years or didn't fit anymore, and finally put away all the clothes that I did want to keep. While organizing my closet I could point out skirts, dresses, or tops and remembered where I wore it to, how fun that night was, and how I wore it differently another night. I love teaching my old clothes to do new tricks. I eventually went through some of my pictures that I had saved on my computer (the rest are on my facebook that I deactivated) and saw how I wore my favorite pieces in so many different outfits. I own a lot of basic clothing and then accessorize, accessorize, accessorize.

My boyfriend blazer that I got on the sale rack at Anthropology is one of my absolute favorite things in my closet. If I wasn't so afraid of loosing it if I ever put it down at a party I would wear it out so much more. But as you can see it goes with anything - jeans with boots or a dress and heels!

I reused the gray banded skirt and my combat boots in both of these outfits. The skirt was my absolute go-to my first year at college. It was flattering and was easily matched with any solid colored top. As for the boots I wore everywhere from class to out at night on weekends. My guy friends thought they were the most hideous things they've ever seen and went as far as to call me a 'Keebler Elf'. No matter what they said I kept wearing them because they added attitude to any ensemble.

The next outfit choices I recycled the little black halter top and black, slouchy heels. The first outfit I thought it made the outfit look tough, ballerina chic in the tutu-like skirt (I LOVE wearing red lipstick). The second outfit was definitely one of my most daring outfits. everything from the high-wasted shorts, high socks, and chains. But like the first outfit, I mixed feminine pieces with funky accessories.

Excuse my face in the first picture - I was getting in the mind set for a techno concert. I thought this outfit was so fun and colorful - my mom said I looked like a lollipop (Ha)! The yellow shirt is from American Eagle, the hot pink shorts are from H&M, orange belt from Jcrew, and the teal sandals are from Payless. I tied in a little teal with the neckless from Forever21 that you can't see in the picture. The picture below is a nude and gold bedazzled crop top from H&M, gold belt and nude heels from Kohl's, along with an antique gold necklace that is paired with the same hot pink shorts.

I always shop in the sale rack, I am a regular at TJ Maxx and Marshalls, and love when my sister gives my hand-me-downs. Of course, I will splurge on a pair of heels or an irresistible dress once and a while, but getting 8 items for $50 instead of one top from Free People is my kind of style. I am addicted to fashion magazines but will always take their ideas and make my own versions. I even went so far as to buy a pair of jeans from the mens section at Kohl's and made them into my very own 'boyfriend' jeans because I couldn't bare to spend $128 on Jcrew's brand.
I just went crazy in Urban Outfitter's online Sale, and also bought an adorable trench coat from Overstock.com and awesome, brown combat boots from Urbanog.com. I cannot wait for all my purchases to arrive in the mail! Hopefully my new wardrobe will distract people at parties enough to not notice I'm not drinking.....

p.s. this is my new and improved, gorgeously organized closet! (:
